World Give Day 2012

World Give Day 2012 is only a few months away, which means it is time to start spreading the word!

This year’s World Give Day, celebrated on May 4th, is all about creating unexpected joy. Whether it is through giving someone a smile on the street, helping a friend move, volunteering at a local soup kitchen, or visiting a shelter to play with dogs, we are constantly touching the lives of people around us and creating unexpected joy. Our goal is to get more people to become actively involved in their community to raise awareness about their favorite cause.

We are currently looking for participants for this year’s blog series!  Bloggers will respond to the statement: “Small gift, big impact: Tell us about a time when you saw a small act of giving create lots of unexpected joy.”

We are also working on holding hug flash mobs in various cities throughout the country and looking for organizations and volunteers to help us out.

We have lots in store for World Give Day 2012!  Shoot us an email at if you are interested in participating!

Be sure to follow us on Twitter @WorldGiveDay and check us out on Facebook and let us know what you’re doing to create unexpected joy.

Last year’s WGD was a huge success. We’re ready to make this years even better!

Donation Made to Salvation Army in Honor of World Give Day

Capital Gold Group Donates to The Salvation Army Relief Fund for Victims of Southeastern Tornadoes

LOS ANGELES, May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — In support of World Give Day and a continued commitment to giving to those in need, Capital Gold Group, Inc. has announced that a corporate donation has been made to support the much needed efforts of The Salvation Army Tornado Relief Fund for the victims of the deadly tornado outbreak which ravaged much of the Southeastern United States.

Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia were struck by as many as 312 tornadoes during the 24-hour period between 8:00 a.m. April 27 and 8:00 a.m. April 28, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  The confirmed dead totals 340 with thousands of others injured and left homeless by the devastating twisters. Residents of Alabama were hit the hardest with over 246 killed in the state alone. President Barack Obama visited Alabama on April 29, signing a disaster declaration for Alabama, along with Mississippi and Georgia. Expert analysis by NOAA Research and the National Weather Service of the fatality information from the twisters indicated that April 27, 2011, was the single deadliest day for tornadoes since March 18, 1925.

Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) has deployed teams across the Southeast to provide support to storm survivors in the affected areas, as well as mobile feeding units including catering trucks, mobile kitchens, and a 20,000 meal per day full service field kitchen. A donation to The Salvation Army Tornado Relief Fund helps to provide the immediate relief and emergency services to victims affected by the twisters. Initial funds contributed to The Salvation Army Tornado Relief Fund by Capital Gold Group, Inc. and others will help get necessary services and supplies such as clean water, food, blankets, and medicine to the survivors of these destructive tornadoes.

Donations can be made at the website,, or to donate $10 text the word “GIVE” to80888.  Capital Gold Group is urging other socially responsible individuals and corporations to support the relief effort for the victims of this overwhelming tragedy.

World Give Day on ABC 7

Saturday morning, GiveForward co-founder, Ethan Austin, got to sit down with Stacy Baca and ABC 7 Chicago and tell her all about World Give Day and how we are trying to make a difference, one donation, one tweet and one hug at a time.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

World Give Day Gear

After Ethan’s interview on ABC7 where he had a chance to debut our awesome World Give Day t-shirts, there was a huge increase in demand for World Give Day gear (meaning we had a few people ask…) so here it is, your chance to own your very own World Give Day t-shirt, mug or doggie shirt.

Just check out our Cafepress shop and pick the gear you like most.  There is also plenty of GiveForward and Giveasaurus swag as well.  So head on over and show your World Give Day spirit!

History of World Give Day

As we ramp up for the second annual World Give Day (May 4th) we thought it might be fun to take a look back at the history of World Give Day.

It all started last year when GiveForward co-founder and President Desiree Vargas Wrigley was preparing for International Volunteer Day.  She realized that while there were a few days that were set aside to encourage people to volunteer, there weren’t any that focused on giving (besides Thanksgiving of course, and World Give Day is less turkey-centric).

World Give Day was born as a day that GiveForward set aside to focus on giving, whether giving a donation, giving your time or giving a hug (check out our World Give Day hug-fest).

For the first annual World Give Day, GiveForward reached out to non-profits to partner together and spread the word.  An exciting and fun event, this year we’re growing our World Give Day team.

Crowdfunding as a concept is all about giving.  It harnesses the giving spirit within individuals and empowers them to make a difference by joining with like-minded people to give to a cause they care about. With a rapidly growing crowdfunding community we wanted to include them in this day of giving.  This year our partners are working together to spread the culture of giving that they embody every day in their work.

We hope you’ll join us in our second annual World Give Day celebration and take some time on May 4th to give.
